The New Moon in Virgo, 0º22’
August 23, 2025 8:04am CEDT
This year we have two New Moons in the sixth sign of the Zodiac, and we’re lucky enough to get a non-eclipse Virgo New Moon first (the eclipse will take place September 21) … so take advantage of the energy this cycle.
What is Virgo energy?
We all have Virgo somewhere in our chart, and it’s usually the area that helps us get it together, so to speak. Virgo is a clean-up crew; the refiner and editor of the Zodiac, analytical, perfectionist, organizational, polished, refined, and wellness oriented. Virgo sees something, and without a second thought, says “I can make that better.”
Mutable earth (flexible, adaptable, but grounded) and ruler of the nervous system and digestive tract, this sign is extremely perceptive and intensely sensitive, feeling messages in the nerves and the gut.
What does this mean for this New Moon?
With the Sun and moon at the verrrryyyy beginning of Virgo season — the first minutes, at 0º — this is a *potent* time for a fresh start. The slate is clean, the soil is rich, and we’re ready to edit our lives.
The ruling planet of this lunation, Mercury, is in Leo — and moving ahead (direct) after learning many lessons in retrograde recently. It’s still in the “post retrograde shadow” at 12º, meaning we’re in prime editorial territory. TL;DR: edit. your. life.
Regardless of your rising sign, Virgo calls us to cut the BS and level up. We’re setting intentions when it comes to refining our lives, editing and elevating. Virgo also comprises our goals around organization, our health and wellness, and our routines.
The Wine of the Transit
Following the energy of this extremely refined, polished, put-together, and delicate lunation, we wanted a wine that had these qualities. We’re grabbing a bottle of one of our favorite refined, light, and delicate rosés, Château Minuty Rosé et Or.
Dominique discovered this in Nice many years ago, and got to share it with Jamie on their recent trip to Cannes in May. It’s a perfectly polished, exquisitely dry rosé for the final chapter of summertime. Ask your caviste for a dry, light rosé if you want to try something similar (though this one should be available near you).
Your New Moon in Virgo Ritual
At risk of sounding repetitive, this is an ideal time to journal (Mercury-ruled Virgo loves the written word). Plus, organizing your goals and intentions through writing? Quintessentially Virgoan.
To prepare for your journaling session, lean into Virgo’s purifying qualities, clearing space for what’s to come. While this is a New Moon (primed for new beginnings), it also has a cleansing, releasing overtone — there’s an exceptional amount of potential at our disposal.
Cleanse your body; a luxurious salt bath can do the trick. Then, your space: a deep clean in your home, especially where you sleep and where you work.
The cleaning you do now is given a powerful boost thanks to the astringent energies this cosmic transit provides. And, in doing this now, you’ll be better equipped for the incoming eclipse season two weeks from now.
Light a candle, pour your Minuty rosé, and start to plot out your life… which areas need editing? Where do you want to improve? What could use some organizational support? What people, things, beliefs, and habits have outstayed their welcome, and need to be edited out?

Gemini Rising: Virgo rules your 4th house
Themes: Home, family, roots, inner world, emotional foundation
Virgo organization helps you refine and edit your home life. What do you need to level up your living space? Set clear, intentional goals about what needs editing, what needs elevating — and why (we know you love a why). Get strategic and methodical.
Cancer Rising: Virgo rules your 3rd house
Themes: Communication, siblings, short trips, learning, local community
Put a pen to paper and write some goals about how you want to communicate in the coming months. Has anything been blocking your voice, or the way you convey ideas? Set your intentions today on the best use of your voice, and what the best outcome of that might be.
Leo Rising: Virgo rules your 2nd house
Themes: Money, values, self-worth, resources, possessions
Virgo brings an air of practicality and organization to your financial health… The maiden is going to help you get serious so you can thrive in this domain. Set a clear goal, and take an organized approach, whether it’s a spreadsheet, personal finance app, or even meeting with a financial advisor. Discerning Virgo in your house of values and inner resources reminds you that you can thrive through order, alignment, and attention to detail.
Virgo Rising: Virgo rules your 1st house
Themes: Identity, appearance, personality, self-expression, instincts
This is your New Moon, Virgo! Want to give your wardrobe a refresh? Try a new hairstyle? Complete makeover? When the Sun and Moon conjoin in your first house of self, you can consider this your personal New Year’s Day… your own cosmically-potent day for resolutions (and we know you love a resolution). What do you want the year ahead to look like, to feel like… What does your best, highest self look like? Write out your goals, close your eyes, envision them happening. Now plot out your plan to make them real.
Libra Rising: Virgo rules your 12th house
Themes: Subconscious, solitude, healing, hidden things, spiritual retreat
A New Moon in the house of all things hidden, our blind spots… This is less a time to manifest, and more a time to retreat within. A lunar reset button is cropping up in one of the most spiritual, most sensitive parts of your chart, calling you to do a bit of hibernation before heading back to work, school, and real life post summer. Make your intention to rest, and indulge in a solid pause.
Scorpio Rising: Virgo rules your 11th house
Themes: Friendships, networking, dreams, social groups, innovation
Are you the organizer of your friend group? Virgo brings a multitasking lens to your house of community; this lunation gives you an opportunity to envision what you want your community life to look and feel like. You may thrive when you lean into using “acts of service” as your love language within your group(s) of friends. Remember: you don’t have to be self-sacrificing. The kindness, care, and support you show those in your sphere through your thoughtfulness will come back to you tenfold.
Sagittarius Rising: Virgo rules your 10th house
Themes: Career, public image, legacy, achievements, reputation
Having the sign of the maiden ruling your public house gives you a meticulous approach to how you handle your career (and you may not always consider yourself a meticulous person!). Tune into this potent Virgo energy to consider how you want to make an impact on the world, and what you want this next chapter of your career and public life to look like. The more you harness this organized, detail-oriented energy, the more successful you will be.
Capricorn Rising: Virgo rules your 9th house
Themes: Travel, philosophy, higher education, beliefs, expansion
If you’re planning a trip in the coming months, Virgo is ready (especially today) to help organize your Google slide presentation, your spreadsheet, your document of everything you’re going to pack, and your Rosetta Stone subscription to learn that language so you can get by. This is the A-type organization your friends and family will appreciate once they’re on the trip and benefitting from your genius mind and mental labor. Manifest today what you’d like to realize in the house of adventure, culture, higher learning, spirituality, and publishing.
Aquarius Rising: Virgo rules your 8th house
Themes: Intimacy, transformation, shared resources, death/rebirth, mystery
You could receive some clarifying energy around your sense of personal power with this lunation. The 8th house calls touchier topics into question — power dynamics, debts, shared resources, investments, and deep psychological inner work. Perhaps you want to set an intention in regards to shared finances (inheritances, prenuptial agreements, loans, mortgages, Angel investors), or maybe it’s more focused on how you need to overcome and rebalance a particular power dynamic. Take time with methodical Virgo to reflect on the power dynamics (financial or otherwise) in your life, and manifest accordingly.
Pisces Rising: Virgo rules your 7th house
Themes: Partnerships, relationships, contracts, balance, one-on-one dynamics
A dream is a wish your heart makes, Pisces. And while practical Virgo can sometimes temper the dreaminess of our romantic life, bringing an air of practicality to our one-to-one relationships (looking at the fine print of contractual agreements, including marriage!), this is still a lovely, potent, juicy time to “make a wish” around your partnerships. Dream up what you want the next six to 12 months to look like when it comes to your romantic partner, professional partnerships, and best friendships.
